Can repellents get Baltimore flying squirrels out of the attic reliably?
The Baltimore squirrels can breed and give birth to young ones in a very short span of time and thus large population and decrease in natural habitat due to deforestation, they seek shelter in residential areas. Flying squirrels can be nuisance for homeowners. They prefer occupying attic area of the house because this is one of the unperturbed and warm areas of the house. They create their territory and are easy to discover because of the noise that they create. If you are reading this post, then there are high chances that the squirrels have conquered your house also and you are looking for quick ways to get rid of them.
There are few approaches that you can consider but if you want to know whether repellents will help in this regard? Then the straightforward answer is No! Repellents can work for pests like rodents, skunks and mice but not for squirrels especially flying squirrels and there are many reasons as listed below:
1. Repellents are not long - term solution:
Repellents are not a full proof solution as they don’t stay effective for long. As and when you stop using them, they stop working! Repellents only work until the time they are lying out there. You can’t obviously keep these repellents in your home forever as these are risky for pets and kids at your home. Maryland squirrels are very intelligent animals. Repellents may work for one time but as soon as their effect nullifies, squirrels will get back to your home. if you think that you will use them repeatedly then this cheap option will turn out to be the most expensive option.
2. The coverage of repellents is not considerable:
If you have kept repellents in the attic area then they will keep the Maryland squirrels away only in that area. Squirrels can shift in some other corner of the house where there are no repellents. Keeping repellents everywhere is not a solution as these are poisonous and if any pet at your home swallows them by mistake then that can be dangerous. We believe you know that evicting one squirrel from one area of your home can’t be termed as getting rid of flying squirrels!
3. Repellents are not worth:
Spending any penny on repellents is not worth if you are not combining them with any other effective means. Both cheap and expensive repellents are available in the market but none of them will prove to be effective if you are not solving the problem from the roots. If the potential entry points are not sealed, then there is no benefit of investing in repellents. Also, repellents don’t come with any guarantee which means that they can contaminate your home, soil, food and water sources due to toxic ingredients without helping you in getting rid of flying squirrels.
Thus, it will be valuable to conclude that relying on repellents alone is not an effective solution. It can result in some success if they are used in conjunction with other methods such as trapping and other evacuation methods!
